3 Recent Cases

The research and advocacy work of TWC2 has been stimulated and informed by the many individual experiences brought forcefully to our attention through our direct service helpline. Through operating this helpline, we have been involved intimately in tackling problems and appeals for assistance. Important as an activity in itself, this has also helped us to craft our lobbying strategies.

Three examples of cases recently encountered are described below; these were chosen to show the loops in which foreign workers unfortunately get entangled with wage disputes and injustices by employers. One case illustrates the social injustice that can be experienced by some female domestic workers. These examples together represent most of the more typical kinds of problems that foreign workers here face. Due to their lack of understanding of state laws and regulations, they are often subject to misuse and mistreatment.
