The ASEAN Declaration

TWC2 reports on the ASEAN Declaration and other presenting issues including signing a regional campaign on recognising domestic work as work.

The status of migrant workers is an issue for every member state of ASEAN. Most member states are exporters of migrant workers: the Philippines and Indonesia are among the largest exporters of labour in the world. Brunei and Singapore are major importers of labour from elsewhere in the ASEAN region and also from outside. Malaysia and Thailand both export and import migrant labour.

TWC2 attended the 3rd ASEAN Civil Society Conference held on 2-4th November in Singapore, Peninsula Excelsior Hotel. Organised by regional non-governmental organisations in South-East Asia, the conference also saw the launch of a regional campaign on recognising the rights of domestic workers. The campaign seeked support from NGOs such as TWC2 and we've signed onto in support of the cause.
