Helpline Training 2008

Keen to find out what it's like as a helpliner?  We've had 2 helpline training sessions in the past, in 2008 with the kind donations of members, we're able to run the 3rd helpline training. Come sign up today!

Do you have some or all of the following requirements?

  • Conversant in English
  • Knowledge of another language
  • Possess basic writing skills in English to write forms, short reports and emails
  • Interest and passion towards issues surrounding migrant workers
  • Willing to sign a contract to commit to 10 training sessions and 3 hours of manning the helpline weekly
  • Qualified in social work or have basic counseling skills

We cover the following topics for the classes:

  • An overview of foreign workers in Singapore, why Singapore needs them and what do they do?
  • Why do these workers need support from NGOs?
  • Existing support services available to foreign workers by state and non-state institutions
  • Laws governing the employment of foreign domestic workers and male foreign workers  in Singapore
  • A closer overview of the demographic profiles, socio-economic and education profiles, cultural backgrounds and insights into the areas and countries where foreign workers come from
  • Basic Counselling Skills
  • Standard operating procedures, sample cases and confidentiality when working on the helpline
